Historic, Personal and Cultural Significance of Photography

 


Aspects of Photography that are optional,

and class dependent:

Photoshop

– Workflow management
– Basic correction of color and exposure
– Basic photo-manipulation

- Advanced retouching and manipulation (student dependent)

Photo Studio
- Studio lighting - more than one light

- Posing 

- Personal color theory

- Facial analysis


This course will provide the student the opportunity to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the technical and aesthetic aspects of black and white and color photography. 

 

-Using both film and digital single lens reflex cameras, students will learn the necessary skills to produce well composed photographs.

 

-They will learn to control focus, movement and blur, and depth of field. 

-Students will gain a practical knowledge of exposure, film development, digital corrections, file management and darkroom enlargement while applying their learning through the use of the elements and principles of design. 

-Students will also be introduced to the history of the science and art of photography and learn a process for photo critiquing. 

 

Cameras are available for student use, although students who already own a manual single lens reflex camera may benefit from learning to make full use of their own equipment.

 

Evaluation will be based on the technical quality, completeness and presentation of studio work produced both for the student’s resource binder and for display.

Sketchbooks are required for pre-planning shoots and showing understanding.
